hCG Alpha and Beta Subunit

The alpha and beta subunit of hCG are two dissimilar protein chains that together compose hCG. They are produced by chemically cleaving the whole molecule. The alpha chain is identical to the alpha subunit of FSH, LH, and TSH. The Beta subunit gives the hCG its distinct biological activity. Beta hCG is also expressed in trophoblastic tumors.
