Prolactin (PRL)
| Catalog Numbers: | PRL Standard Grade – 175S PRL High Purity – 175A |
Product Specification:
Prolactin is an acidic, single chain polypeptide secreted by the cells in the anterior pituitary gland. Prolactin is very similar to hGH in structure. Prolactin may be found in several forms. Monomeric prolactin accounts for 40 - 80% of the prolactin present in the pituitary gland. Big Prolactin, a dimer of the prolactin molecule accounts for 10%. Prolactin is also found in glycosylated, phosphorylated, and sulfated forms. These variations in the prolactin molecule exhibit differences in immunological and bioactivity. The cells producing prolactin (lactotrophs) are higher in the female population than the male and increase during pregnancy. The major function of prolactin is the initiation and maintenance of lactation in women. Prolactin is available as standard grade (50%) and as High purity (95%).
